Albany Middle School offers band and piano classes to students in 6th-8th grades.  Students interested in beginner level music classes must submit an application by May 1st in order to be considered for enrollment for the following school year.

Beginner Piano Class
  • Students enrolled in this class will:

    • Learn the basics of playing songs on the piano.

    • Learn how to read music notation.

    • Develop aural skills to play songs by ear.

    • Learn to compose original songs.

 

  • Enrollment is limited.  A selective process will be used when the number of applicants outnumbers the amount of pianos available.

  • There are no after-school commitments or concerts associated with this class.

  • AMS provides the pianos and headphones.

  • The class fee is $10 for the year.

Piano Keys
Beginner Band Class
  • Students will learn the basics of playing one of the following band instruments:

    • Flute

    • Clarinet

    • Saxophone

    • Trumpet

    • Trombone

    • Tuba

    • Drums

  • Students should keep an open mind and be flexible in regards to which instrument they play in the band.  It is ultimately up to the band director which instrument each student will play.  The instrument selection process will begin at the beginning of each school year.

  • Students must provide their own instrument and method book in order to participate in the class.  Instrument rentals are around $25 per month.  The method book is around $10.  See Boogieland Music in Hammond for more details.

  • The class fee is $15 for the year.

  • The Beginner Band usually performs one public concert at the end of the school year.

Instruments
Intermediate Band Class
  • Students in this class are in their 2nd or 3rd year of study.

  • The Intermediate Band usually performs two public concerts.

  • The class fee is $15 for the year.

Clarinet in orchestra
Concert Band Class
  • Students in this class are advanced players in their 2nd or 3rd year of study.

  • The Concert Band performs at all home football games, the homecoming parade, winter and spring concerts, and many other events that happen throughout the year.

  • The class fee is $15 for the year.
